As the Director of the RPA Office, my personal mission is to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and respected in research conducted at our institution. My role includes advocating for research participant’s rights and understanding as well as to provide community outreach and education on the importance of clinical research. I also provide education to faculty and staff on best practices for ensuring participant understanding in the research process.

Amanda Barrios is a Program Manager and English-Spanish Translator/Interpreter for research at the University of Utah. She is a native Spanish speaker from Guatemala. She is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter, CHI™ by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters, with a Bachelor’s degree in Translation, from Brigham Young University and additional training from the University of Geneva, Switzerland and the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey, California. Amanda has completed the Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter Training and is a member of the American Translators Association (ATA).
Diana Cufino is a medical interpreter and translation reviewer at the University of Utah. She grew up in South America and graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and Health. In addition to her formal education she has completed the certification for Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter Training and is a member of the American Translators Association (ATA).
